KOKOPELLI FLUTIST

After painting a Kokopelli on one of my pots it was brought to my attention by my husband who has some knowledge about Hopi Katcinas. He said that the Kokopelli has a hump back because he is carrying the seeds of life in a bag on his back, thus giving him the appearance of having a humped back. The only time he plays the flute is when he borrows it from the Flute Katchina, Lenang.

This of course gave the painting a whole new meaning and it was not my intention to omit this little detail. However, for this particular painting I am going to suggest he is in the refuelling or collecting stage and his bag is on empty.
